Toilet Bombs: How They Began

Covid was a very long, scary and rather odd time. Living during an age where the streets were completely bare, restaurants closed, and supplies were low was not one that I expected to live in during my life time. It was during this time that I had a lack of cleaning supplies. Unable to go to the store due to the pandemic amongst other things, I decided to test the waters and make my own cleaning supplies. I’m glad I did because this would eventually lead to our Toilet Bombs.

Much like any millennial, I went to Pinterest to find ideas about how I could make my own cleaning supplies. I was already in the process of developing my business around the idea of eco-friendly and chemical free cleaning when I stumbled upon the idea to make these toilet bombs. Granted, they weren’t originally supposed to be bombs, but it was the only mold I had and my son, like all small children, loves explosions, so why not? Thus, I put my head down and got to work. After trial and error, I finally found a recipe that I liked that worked great.

But I wasn’t satisfied yet.

The recipe I first came up with did a great job, but didn’t quite get a deep clean that I was really looking for. Plus I was looking for something with a longer shelf life that would be stable for long periods of time. This began my two year long rabbit hole of investigating cleaning agents, perfecting my recipe, and driving myself crazy with the hopes of finalizing my product.

With hard work, dedication and a lot of love, the toilet bombs were complete! After starting Healthy Homes, I decided to test my product out with my clients and found great results. People were interested and loving the product! Which got me thinking: maybe I could sell this in stores? I decided to try my luck and began talks with Hyvee. After long negotiations (meaning, I wouldn’t leave them alone until they said yes), they agreed to sponsor and sell my product!

Which brings us to today. Our toilet bombs are available year-round and will leave your toilets fresh, clean and smelling great.
